Invite Imprisonment Of One Year
The use of banned polythene for the first time will invite a penalty of Rs 1,000 or imprisonment up to one month.Those found manufacturing, storing or transport of banned polythene or plastic bag for the first time will invite imprisonment up to six months or penalty from wholesale printed packaging film Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000.According to UP Plastic and Other Non-biodegradable Waste (use and disposal) Ordinance 2018, issued by UP governor Ram Naik, the use and manufacture of polythene of less than 50 micron would invite a penalty ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1 lakh and imprisonment up to a maximum of 6 months.The violation of the plastic ban for the second time will see the term of imprisonment increasing up to six months or penalty ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 20,000.The ordinance improves upon the UP Plastic and Other Non-biodegradable Waste (use and disposal) Act of 2000 by ensuring strict enforcement of ban on polythene and thermocol imposition through stringent punishment.The violation of ordinance for the second time will invite imprisonment of one year or penalty up to a maximum of Rs 1 lakh.The plastic ban will be imposed in phases in the state.Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath government, on Sunday, issued an ordinance banning use and manufacture of polythene, plastic bags and thermocol.

Some Relaxation In Plastic Packing
The Retailers Association of India blamed the situation to the prevailing confusion in the market, as the state administration is yet to clear some doubts about what type of plastic bags is allowed.Thousands of perishables have also gone waste, as sale of juices, milk and curd has dropped by 25 per cent, Shah indicated.Fearing penalties, over 2,000 kirana shops are closed in the state, Shah claimed, and business has suffered badly."But, the same report has not yet been cleared as yet, and there is still confusion," Kumar Rajagopalan of the Retailers Association told PTI."
The plastic ban has led to a big loss of business at the over 3 lakh kirana stores across Maharashtra.An advisory committee headed by Praveen Pardesi, additional chief secretary to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had on June 20 allowed some relaxation in plastic packing at retail level, with non-woven carry bags being allowed as an alternate to plastic bag of 60 gsm, the RAI said. "Business has been hit due to fear of heavy penalty charges and removal of plastic packed food and other products in cities including Pune, Nagpur and Nashik as well," Shah said.
